Top Entrance Exams: Explore Career Options After 12th

After the board exams of class 12, you need to decide your stream and graduation course. With the common career options after 12th, are you left with very few choices for graduation in streams like science, arts or commerce? Here in this blog, we share a list of career options after 12th for traditional and unconventional UG courses and jobs. Some of the mentioned entrance exams and courses are of National Level while there is State Level or colleges’ own entrance exams.

Engineering Entrance Exams

JEE Main: The exam is conducted by CBSE, to get admission into Engineering courses at NITs, IIITs and central funded technical institutions like IIST, and also happens to be the eligibility test for JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced: This is conducted by the IITs and only candidates who qualify the JEE Mains can take the test.

BITSAT: This is administered for admission to engineering degree courses at the BITS campuses across India. BITSAT is a computer based online entrance exam. Notifications are shared in December and online tests are held in the May through June.

VITEEE: This entrance exam is conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology for admission to its several B Tech Degree programs. You can find online applications from December and the test is conducted in March.

Architecture Entrance Tests

NATA: This is career option after 12th to B Arch courses in India in Government and Government aided and un-aided colleges of Architecture. NATA applications are available in March and one can give the exam on any working day from March to Aug.

Medical Entrance Tests

NEET-UG: A national level entrance- cum- eligibility test for admission in MBBS/BDS courses after class 12th science. It is conducted by CBSE which previously conducted all India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT).

Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Entrance Exam: This is among the toughest entrance exams after 12th. The course is for 4 and half years, followed by internship of 1-year Medical course. After qualifying, it is compulsory for the students to serve as a commissioned officer in medical services of defence forces for a minimum of 7 years.

AIIMS MBBS: The exam is conducted after Class 12 for admission to MBBS seats in AIIMS New Delhi and to the other 6 new AIIMS like institutions.

AIPVT: An entrance exam conducted after Class XII for admission to 5 years B. Vsc and AH courses in India.

Defence and Marine

NDA and NA Exams: National level entrance exam for candidates who are eager to join any defense force and serve the nation.

Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test: A national level entrance test for students looking for admission to Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) after class 12th having a science background. The selected candidates are offered a BSc. (Nautical Science) degree.

Indian Navy B.Tech Entry Scheme: An exam for class 12 students who want admission in Indian Navy B.Tech course.

Indian Navy Sailors Recruitment: A test of recruitment for class 12 students with subjects Maths and Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science who get basic training at INS Chilka, and later professional training.

State or other medical colleges Common Entrance Tests

Manipal (MBBS) MU OET: This is conducted for admission in the MBBS course offered at KMC, Manipal, and KMC, Mangalore.

BHU Medical: This test is conducted to select candidates seeking admission to MBBS/BDS course. This would help in case you choose medical science as a career option after 12th.

Karnataka CET: The state of Karnataka carries out a common entrance test for admission to Professional Educational Institutions in the State for Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Technology, Unani, Naturopathy, Agriculture, Yoga, Engineering, Architecture, Forestry, Sericulture, Agri Biotech, Horticulture, Home Science, Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry and many other courses.

Kerala KEAM: Kerala conducts an entrance test, for admission to colleges Kerala for admission to Medical, Agriculture, Veterinary, Fisheries, Engineering and Architecture Courses Admission.

Hotel Management Entrance Exams

NCHMCT JEE: The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology Joint regulates B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration and other courses of study at 21 central IHM, 14 state government IHM and 15 private IHM affiliated with NCHMCT.

Law Entrance Exams

CLAT: The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is carried out for admission to UG and PG programmes at 14 National Law Universities. This is a good career option after 12th if you wish to join the law stream.

LSAT: The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) India is carried out for admission to Law programmes in colleges like Amity, UPES Dehradun, ITM Gurgaon, Faculty of Law Dehradun, RGSOIPL, for three years LLB at IIT Kharagpur and others.

All India Law Entrance Test (AILET): This is conducted for the selection of candidates seeking admission in B.A., LL.B. (Hons.)

Design Entrance Tests

NIFT entrance test: This entrance test is conducted for admission to the bachelor’s courses in NIFT. For B Design it conducts GAT and CAT and Situation test. For admission to B.F Tech, students must appear in GAT test.

NID: The National Institute of Design conducts Design Aptitude Test for admission to its UG programmes at all centers. The upper eligibility age limit for candidates is 20 years.

All India Entrance Examination for Design (AIEED): This is conducted for candidates who want to take admission in 4 years UG programmes in design, after class 12th.


Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Exam: This is a career option after 12th, who wants to do government jobs after class 12th. If selected, one can join as a lower division clerk in any of the various government ministries and departments, armed forces or railways.

CPT for Chartered Accountancy: This is conducted by the Council of the Institute Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) which will help you to become a Chartered Accountant.
